Creggan "Poets' Glen" Project received a Special Commendation in the Conservation Volunteers, Environmental Endeavour Awards in 1996.

Creggan Churchyard with its adjacent "Poets' Glen" 13 acre public park is close to The RING OF GULLION, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The local people have a strong musical and cultural tradition and offer a friendly welcome.

Creggan Poets’ Glen, walled garden and river amenity area are open to pedestrians from the churchyard entrance. The new vehicle entrance at Newry Road will be open to the public from November 2001, once the lease has been signed by the Distrct Council.

Work on restoring the one and a half acre 18th century former rectory walled garden at a cost of £492,000 started in September 1999 and was completed in September 2001. Many interesting features have been created such as an amphitheatre, nature area, gazebo, prayer room, information building, car park, pathways, planting and general landscape areas. The project which was managed by Enterprise Ulster created jobs for 20 previously unemployed local people.
